Frost & Gheorghiu: A Most Intelligent Opera Interview

I feel like I am back in the 70′s listening to an interview with an Opera singer that is highly intelligent and focuses on Art rather that sensationalism and gossip. Angela Gheorghiu is arguably the “greatest soprano in the world” (according to Sir David Frost), but there is no doubt that hers is one of the most beautiful and distinctive voices ever.  She is one bright and amazingly articulate artist even though English is probably her 7th language or so.

For those of you who have taken my class recently,  you know who Jonas Kaufmann is.  For those of you who don’t,  you are in for a real treat this Fall in “Bringing Down the House”, my SRJC 2010 Fall Class.

Kaufmann is the rare singer who  interprets opera not only through his exquisite  vocal abilities,  but also through his phenomenal acting.  In demand all over the operatic world, those lucky enough to have snagged a ticket through Cal Performances for his recital in Berkeley on March 13, 2011 are in for a major cultural Bay Area event.
